After negotiating an allowance increase at the age of 6, Jim Roth’s family believed he was suited to become an attorney. Maintaining a daily paper route during 6th grade to save for college, he never missed a delivery come rain, sleet, or snow. As a teenager, his teachers routinely made him the Master of Ceremony for school presentations because of his quick wit and comfort with public speaking. Throughout his formative years, Jim was preparing to practice law.
Jim has achieved the coveted Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Rating of AV Preeminent®, which is the highest peer rating standard. This is given to attorneys who are ranked at the highest level of professional excellence for their legal expertise, communication skills, and ethical standards by their peers.
During the past 30 years, Jim has devoted his practice to corporate, real estate and business matters, including insurance law. As general counsel to diverse business entities nationwide, Jim is responsible for developing strategies to minimize risk, navigating complex transactions, and representing his clients’ interests in litigation.
Jim has successfully tried numerous cases and argued before the California and federal courts of appeal. In 2009, Jim had the opportunity to help create new law in the insurance arena, drafting an appellate brief that led to the favorable and landmark decision of Supervalu, Inc. v. Wexford Underwriting Managers, Inc., et al.
Believing that helping others strengthens our community because many people find themselves in need at some point in their lives, Jim has assumed leadership positions on an assortment of foundations. He is a former Director for the Blue Sky Community Foundation, the Bernardo Town Center Property Owners’ Association, the Poway Center for the Performing Arts Foundation, the Rancho Bernardo Community Foundation, the Rancho Bernardo Chamber of Commerce and its successor, the North San Diego Business Chamber, having Chaired the Board of both Chambers during his tenure. Jim is currently a Director for Casa de las Campanas, a continuing care retirement community. During 2006, Jim was elected to the Rancho Bernardo Hall of Fame and recognized as the Rotarian of the Year in Rotary District 5340.
Jim is a frequent presenter to trade organizations, professional organizations, businesses and insurance companies on a variety of legal topics. Jim also is responsible for drafting publications for distribution to trade organizations and clients. Seeking to help train the next generation of attorneys, he frequently volunteers as a judge for law students participating in trial practice competitions among the law schools in San Diego, and has also been engaged as an expert witness in real estate and insurance law in various types of litigation matters.
